Public
A public blockchain is a distributed virtual ledger that operates on a peer-to-peer network and can be seen, read, or written to by anyone. Because no permission is necessary to access or participate in it, it is also known as a permissionless blockchain. Because of the decentralized, distributed character, public blockchains are governed by all of their members rather than a single center of authority or decision-making.
Private
A private blockchain is a centralized P2P (peer-to-peer) network that connects all nodes to a single point that oversees the whole platform. Private blockchains are mostly chosen by banks and businesses to facilitate seamless operations. When a member attempts to engage in a private blockchain, the network's center point requests permission.
Hybrid blockchain
Depending on their architecture, hybrid blockchains fall somewhere between private and public blockchains. In a hybrid blockchain, transactions and data are rendered private but may be validated as necessary by granting access through a smart contract. Private information is stored inside the network but may still be verified. Users of a hybrid blockchain get full network access.
Sidechain
A sidechain is basically a separate network that is linked to the parent blockchain or mainchain but operates independently. The link between the two is represented by a two-way peg. The creation of sidechains has immensely helped legacy blockchain protocols such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
A blockchain is a digital ledger that keeps track of transactions on thousands of computers all over the world. These operations are recorded in a way that makes it hard to change them later. Blockchain technology makes the exchange of information safer and faster in a way that is less expensive and more open. It also helps to avoid third parties, whose main job was to make sure transactions were safe and legal.
